Often times the best first step in sewer line maintenance is to install a clean out that allows access to your sewer at ground level in the same size pipe as your sewer.

This clean out allows proper cable and cutter head cleaning of the sewer pipe. A 4 inch sewer cannot be properly cleaned without a 4 inch access point to the line. If the larger line is cleaned using a smaller cutting head, the head can only clear a smaller hole in the blockage of the main sewer.

If you have been told you need a clean out or if you have regular backups of your sewer, installing a cleanout will allow proper cleaning of the line and likely prolong the life of your sewer pipe, often eliminating for years the need to replace the pipe.
